The next meeting / mixer of the Socialist Party of California / Los Angeles

ALL ARE INVITED!

Whether you’re a Party member, interested in the Socialist Party or just want to know what the Party is up to in California!

The meeting kicks off at 12 noon on Saturday, August 13th and will be followed by a 330pm mixer. We hope to have as many different groups present at the mixer as possible. It’s time to Party.

We have some big issues to cover. The Socialist Party National Convention will be held in Los Angeles, CA from October 14th – 16th. This will require a lot of planning and coordination. Our Convention Committee Chairman, Stewart Alexander, will fill us in on what we can do to ensure the success of the SP Convention.

By the way, it looks like California’s Stewart Alexander is positioning himself to be a strong contender for the Socialist Party and Peace and Freedom Party Presidential nominee. We need to start working on a campaign to help Stewart spread the socialist message. Stewart is the real deal, and his campaign is going to present those with an interest in crushing the corporate quest for profit at the expense of the people an ENORMOUS opportunity to have representation in the public arena.

We are also about to unleash the first of our public assistance programs. State co-chair Lynn Lomibao has put together a program called “Back 2 Back,” which will provide much-needed clothing to families and children in need.

Here is Lynn’s mission statement for the program:

“Back 2 Back is a free clothing program offered by the Socialist Party California. Our mission is to relieve families in underserved communities from some of the economic burden associated with buying clothing; to empower the community to give back to their neighbors in need; to encourage recycling; and to increase awareness for the Socialist Party.”

Michelle Borok has fully stepped into the role as Party treasurer. We need to begin work on fundraising activities to keep her busy. Please bring any ideas you might have.

Finally, Justin Simons, Andre Mahmoudian, and Christopher Anodyne will keep us posted on Youth Action Committee, Membership Committee, and Street Art activities.

Please invite anyone you like to attend. If you have a distance to travel, let us know so we can try to help with travel arrangement.

Take care!

The Socialist Party of California is on the move!

We are organizing a boycott through facebook of the notorious big box corporate gangsters, such as Wal Mart, Target and Best Buy. More than anything, this is an opportunity to raise public awareness about the shameful business practices of these outfits. We are nearing 600 individuals who have pledged to refrain from shopping at these retailers from July 10th through July 24th. Please join us in the fight against profit over people!

We are also endorsing the push to get Prop 1481 on the ballot in California. According to the “Rescue Education California” website, Prop 1481 would essentially impose a 15 percent oil excise tax per barrel of oil extracted from California. California is the only major oil producing state that doesn’t have such a tax. The funds generated from the tax would go directly to education at the K-12 and university level. The revenue potentially generated is an estimated three billion dollars annually. In addition, the oil companies are prohibited from passing the tax on to the consumer. Sounds pretty good to us.

Thanks to everyone for taking such amazing photos and allowing us to post them here! One of Bobby’s key messages of the evening was that progressives MUST work together to keep the movement going — whether we’re Socialists, Communists, black, white, red, yellow or polka-dotted. We agree — THE TIME IS NOW.
