JOIN US AT THE NEXT SOCIALIST PARTY CALIFORNIA / SOCIALIST PARTY LOS ANGELES LOCAL MEETING!

When: Saturday, April 23rd (12PM – 3PM)
Where: 2617 Hauser Blvd. Los Angeles, CA
Agenda: Create agenda for upcoming months and establish workers councils.

We will be meeting on Saturday, April 23rd at the Socialist Party Los Angeles Local office on 2617 Hauser Blvd at 12 noon to discuss what’s been going on with the Party in California, and to set forth an agenda for the upcoming months.

The meeting will conclude at roughly 3pm to be followed by a 4pm mixer / party. We will be inviting other socialist groups from L.A. in an effort to build friendly working relationships for future projects.

The primary focus of the meeting will be the establishment of Party councils, for lack of a better term, to handle the many ideas and suggestions submitted to us from throughout the state and from the national office. While we have a core group of Party members in California who are working very hard to make stay on top of Party affairs, we sorely need more involvement from others in California to handle the workload.

We would like to see Party members volunteer for activities that they’re most comfortable with. Recruitment, public relations, social networking, fundraising, and event coordination will be among the programs to be delegated to the aforementioned councils. We’re happy to see the excitement coming from Party members throughout the state, and want to be able to see their suggestions and ideas realized.

We are also working on street team operations to canvas the city of Los Angeles with Party fliers and pamphlets. To create an appealing presentation, we are working with others with graphic design expertise to create materials that are attractive and enticing. We plan to have a report on the status of the street team program at the meeting. If you’re interested in joining, please let me know.

Since last meeting, our committees have taken part in various activities, and we will be hearing from them with reports on action taken as well as future planned activities.

Our recent mailing campaign was a success! Party members throughout California were generous in their contributions, and as a group, we will decide where to best allocate our resources. (A big thank you to Stewart Alexander for coordinating this campaign.)

We’ve also put Los Angeles in the running to serve as host for the Socialist Party National Convention, and we hope to have an update on where we stand from New York.

We hope to see you there. Things are moving and it’s been a thrill to be part of an energized Socialist Party in California.

The Socialist Party Los Angeles Local needs you on March 19th!!!!!!

March 19th is an important day for the Socialist Party in Los Angeles.

ANSWER is organizing an international day of action to stop the Iraqi and Afghanistan occupations, and the Socialist Party Los Angeles Local will have a presence. We need you to join the march and show the people of Los Angeles, the press, the country and the world that the Socialist Party has an active and committed front in Los Angeles.

You can count on the same handful of folks in the Socialist Party California, Los Angeles, and Riverside to act, and we truly need to expand this base. March 19th is a good time to start.

If anyone is interested in helping me make signs for the event, please let me know and we can meet at the Socialist Party L.A. office and take care of business.

To show unity, we will be wearing red shirts, bold and proud.

It’s advisable that we all meet at a central location so we don’t have difficulty finding each other at the event. I will be at the SPLA office on 2617 Hauser at 1045am. If anyone would like to carpool, let me know and we can make arrangements.

P.S. We attended AF3IRM’s International Women’s Day rally on March 8th. The turnout was good, the crowd was loud, and all of our attendees were interviewed! It was also a great learning experience, and Lynn, Rich, Rustin and I left buzzing with ideas. First, it is CRUCIAL that we create some killer slogans — short, repeatable hooks that get to the hearts of everyone and sum up what we’re all about. Second, we all need to become excellent spokespersons for the party. Third, we need to make red rad again — and wear it anytime we’re together representing the party. Fourth, our communications materials simply need to be better than everyone else’s. There were a lot of flyers flying around, but none of them were particularly compelling. We can make ours totally kickass — and cool. The cool factor is crucial!
